DasGupta Sumona

 

Dr.Sumona DasGupta is a researcher based in New Delhi and currently Senior Research Consultant with Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA). Her previous appointments have been as Lecturer in Political Science at Loreto College, Kolkata, and as Assistant Director with a New Delhi based initiative called Women in Security, Conflict Management and Peace (WISCOMP).  Her research and writing in recent years has been around new issues of security, peace and conflict especially with reference to Jammu and Kashmir where she was actively engaged in an action research project from 2001-2008. In 2011 she was also part of a three member team of consultants set up by INTRAC, UK to evaluate a conflict transformation project in Jammu and Kashmir. Her latest article on Kashmir titled “Women renegotiating internal boundaries in Jammu and Kashmir” appears in Paula Banerjee and Anasua Basu Ray Choudhury (ed) Women in Indian Borderlands (Sage, 2011). Her research has also included work on democracy, governance and civil society and her book Citizen Initiatives and Democratic Engagements: Experiences from India about a massive citizen led campaign for local governance in India was published in 2010 by Routledge. Gender has been a cross cutting research issue and currently she is also working on a research and writing assignment with International IDEA, Stockholm on an analysis of Indian political parties from a gender perspective.  Sumona has been a Member of the Expert Committee set up to design the Masters Curriculum on Peace and Conflict Studies at Sikkim University, Gangtok, India, 2009 and is currently on the International Advisory Group of International Conflict Research (INCORE), University of Ulster, UK, the research steering group of an IDRC project on Trauma, Development and Peace building besides being a corresponding member of the International Peace Commission for the Warrington (UK) based Tim Parry Jonathan Ball Foundation for Peace.
